Grey Morning

Good morning and happy new year! : ]
The last week was a burner, so consequently I didn't have a lot of time to update. Got some really lovely stuff for you all today, though.

Presenting, from Russia, Volor Flex. Interesting find, this one.
While downloading a free track from fellow eastern European producer Liar, I stumbled through bandcamp and found this moody little gem.
The ablum itself, entitled "Tramp," was actually mastered by Liar, so the connections become a little more obvious. I'll just come right out and say it: this sounds like Burial. A lot. However, it's not too much...imitation is the best form of flattery, right? Flex is a bit heavier on the trademark crackles 'n pops, and you'll still hear the ghostly vocals pushing through every once and a while, but I think it's a great album with tons of atmosphere and emotion.
At a time like right now, I don't think there is a point in laying down a stigma around one sound resembling another. I mean, really, if I want to listen to Burial, I'll listen to Burial. If I want to listen to Volor Flex, well, I might listen to this:

Oh yeah, did I mention the album is FREE? Visit the link right here to download (or help the dude out and make a donation!)

Hoppin' Mad!

Presenting Mad-Hop volume 4!
The Mad-Hop collective brings us the fourth installment of the series: 26 FREE tracks of music they describe as "experimental and abstract hip hop electronic music with major interest in IDM and dubstep, basicly everything datz ill and mad with unrepitable style" .
This compilation is totally cool; a lot of what I'm sure could be called "forwarding thinking" music, all kinds of different vibes on this one.

So, without more delay, download Mad-Hop vol.4 right here:

Or if I didn't convince you, here's the first track:

Code of Silence

I'm a week or two behind on this, but nevermind that.
Here's a brand new tune/video combo from King Deluxe's Aleph. Man's got a new EP, entitled "From Chaos to Cosmos," and it drops in January.
This effort sticks with KD's standard of excellence in progressive electronic music; "From Chaos to Cosmos" is kind of glitchy, kind of spacey, kind of garage-y, kind of funky...I could go on. It's kind of all over the place, but it's got consistency and it's awesome. Aleph's stuttering, rolling drum beats and schizophrenic synths & pads create a living, moody soundscape, and the whole thing reminds me of outerspace.

In the words of King Deluxe: "Okay so here’s “Omerta”, with animations borrowed from Jean-François Laguionie’s incredible 1985 film ‘Gwen, The Book Of Sand’…"

Remember?

Kickin' off the first free giveaway is of one my favourite artists, NastyNasty. This dude is, hands down, the shit. Excellent, emotional productions; sexy, slinky, savage sounds on track after heat-filled track. NastyNasty has an unmistakeable sound and a rabid fan following. Consistency never hurt, that's fo sho.
Released on Christmas day, the new EP "Memorabilia" is pretty well exactly what I just described. 5 tracks of infectious percussion with layers of gritty, jumpy, melty synths, and his signature vocal chops and loops--this EP is hot. Three of the tunes are the aforementioned dancefloor bombs, while the others ("Waves" and "2008," respectively) are a little more ambient, but I would certainly not call them filler.
All in all, another awesome release from NastyNasty, and def not the last. Without further ado:

unHIATUS

so it's been a nothing short of a minute since there was ANY activity on this blog. bit of a shame, but life happens and there you have it--not for lack of things to talk about, though.
I'm not going to retrace the last 10 months in music and culture, but I'll highlight some big tings of 2011 (in brief): UKfunky, house, hiphop, juke, and whatever the hell that 130bpm shit is calling itself are awesome, and blew up huge this year. EDM exploded in all kinds of different ways, and the vast majority of it was excellent and interesting...plethora of low-qual, mid-range filth notwithstanding.

On our end, 2011 was the kickoff for a lot of stuff, such as the conception of the Two-Headed Snake (stay tuned), the first-annual Bass Camp, as well as a slew of half-decent musical productions from myself as The Fenris Wolf.

Aanyways, I'll cut the crap and start posting new music. Keep yourselves locked!
